Purpose

Crafted from high-visibility neon reflective fabric, the Safety Drape resembles the reflective safety vests worn by construction workers and joggers. The drape is equipped with elastic cords, making it simple to attach to any part of a vehicle – be it bumpers, wheel wells, or roof racks. Various sizes are possible to accommodate different vehicle types. Additionally, the reflective surface of the drape can display clear warnings like “DANGER” or “KEEP RIGHT,” ensuring the stranded vehicle is visible from a distance. And unlike traditional flares, the Safety Drape is non-incendiary and operates without batteries, providing a constant, dependable alert to other drivers.

The Problem

Many of the traffic incidents stem from vehicles not being seen by oncoming traffic.

Story Behind the Invention

Carlos F. Rodriguez

Inventor Carlos F. Rodriguez of Knoxville, TN has designed a safety alert device for vehicles in emergencies or breakdown situations.

Carlos’s invention was driven by a heartbreaking tragedy. He learned about a pregnant motorist, her unborn child, and a good Samaritan who were fatally struck while dealing with a flat tire on the roadside. This devastating event highlighted the urgent need for better visibility during roadside emergencies. Determined to prevent such losses, Carlos developed the Safety Drape. The invention will enhance the visibility of stranded vehicles and their occupants to passing drivers, helping to prevent similar accidents in the future.

But how does it work? Made from high-visibility neon reflective fabric, the Safety Drape mimics the reflective safety vests commonly used by joggers and construction workers. It features cords for easy attachment to any part of a vehicle, such as bumpers, wheel wells, or roof racks. With various sizes possible, it can fit different types of vehicles. The reflective surface can also display clear warnings like “DANGER” or “KEEP RIGHT,” ensuring the stranded vehicle is noticeable from afar. Unlike traditional flares, the drape is non-incendiary and battery-free, offering a reliable and continuous alert for other drivers.
